Bronze Trilobal Arrowheads. As the Spartans took up their final stand at Thermopolae it is recorded that Leonidas said "If the Medes darken the sun, we shall have our fight in the shade" (Herodotous, The Histories).. and they did darken the sun, with a rain of bronze tipped arrows that tore up the very ground the Spartans stood upon. For centuries before and after the same bronze tip, with a three bladed head, served a variety of ancient armies for hunting and warfare alike - and as a currency as well. This copy faithfully reproduces the bronze trilobal arrowhead seen in the armies of Scythia, Persia, Greece, Carthage and the early Roman Republic. 30mm long 2.5 grams. |
